Gone to Spain...Not me but my paintings!

I was invited to be represented at a new gallery in Madrid, Spain and four Lyrical Expressions have now arrived at Monat Gallery:  Nature Rejoices, Jubilation, Invitation and Continuous Resolutions. These are the works that will be exhibited.

Two Paintings will be showing at the Monaco Art Fair with Monat Gallery in August and a group exhibit will be arranged sometime this year. I will keep you posted about the dates of the exhibitions and I am very happy to announce the first international exhibition of Appleby originals.

These contemporary expressions are like colourful movements of a song in which I focused on vibrant colour flow, with repetitions and varied with texturing of brushes and palette knives.

WINTER'S JOY

Being an artist is not always as easy as it seems.  Like climbing a mountain, until you see the view from the top, or at least a glimpse of something beautiful, it doesn’t seem worth the effort - but it is. With each painting effort there is a breakthrough of sorts, even if it is to work through our own dissatisfactions, doubts, fears and boredom, which can happen to any of us. But that's not the end of the "climb." In my experience, breakthroughs become a small act of some new purpose that I learn to work towards - It is the thing I seek.  No small effort is useless, so I decide to take it on, the smaller the better. There is a gain even in the effort to "rest." It seems that winter is a time that nature rests, and in it's silence I experience a certain joy.  This joy then can become my small purpose. It can be as simple as choosing the size of the canvas, placing it on the easel, picking up the colourful tubes, brushes and imagining the first brush stroke.

Expressing the Landscape Poem

  Expressing the Landscape I am thankful for nature and all the colours I see. When I try to paint them, I feel amazingly free. There are endless combinations of soft and bold. And the various tones can feel warm or cold. The lush greens in foliage may have subtle reds. They shimmer when reflected in river beds. Snow seems white, until you study it. Colours are brighter when they are sunlit. Highlights can be pinks, yellows or blues; In shadows you may find viridian and purple hues. Do you notice a colour catching your eye? Is it up close or above in the sky? I love how colours contrast and subtly transition; When I present them, I use intuition. Light and dark play out, large and small, In a lyrical manner, I make the call... On what to include or colour to mix, Trying to make sure nothing conflicts. Monaco Art Fair

I am thankful for the opportunity for my work to travel to new locations to be experienced by new audiences and am grateful to Monat Gallery for their collaboration with this exhibition and for representing me and my artwork. Art is really something that feeds our soul and when an artist gets an opportunity to show their work it makes the solitary work of producing it a way of connecting and building on it's process.  This is my first International Art Fair and it happens to be in beautiful Monaco.
